Reuters via CNBC: Crap from Crisco
July 26, 2010

Here's my candidate for Chuckle of the Day, reminiscent of the old say "Can't tell crap from Crisco."

Have a look at CNBC's headline from Reuters:

New Home Sales Surge in June, Inventory at 42-Year Low:

Sales of new U.S. single-family homes rebounded strongly in June from the prior month's record low, government data showed on Monday, driving the number of houses on the market to their lowest level in nearly 42 years.

The report was released at 10 AM EST, and the Reuters report is time-stamped 10:05. The market, naturally, popped higher.

When it comes to Real Estate, however, the "real" Crisco is available from Calculated Risk:

New Home Sales: Worst June on Record

Ignore all the month to previous month comparisons. May was revised down sharply and that makes the increase look significant. Here is the bottom line: this was the worst June for new home sales on record.

CNBC — always good for a chuckle.
